Giving back in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chicago
Our teams in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Chicago have spent the past month giving back and volunteering with Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), Firefly Mission (FFM), Orbis International, and Cradles to Crayons. Learn more below about their involvement, from baking to charitable sales to sorting donations.
RMHC is global non-profit dedicated to supporting families with sick children in their time of need. They have over 685 programs in 60 countries/regions and offer overnight stays to 1.5 million families with the help of over 74,000 volunteers.
Some of our employees in the UK visited the Evelina RMHC on the 25th of August. Corporate Fundraiser Ben Walker gave a full tour of the Evelina house while detailing the inspirational history of RMHC. Then the team spent time baking delicious cakes and pastries for the families staying at Evelina to enjoy. Our volunteers also cleaned and assisted with some housekeeping duties.
“We were thrilled to welcome an amazing group of volunteers from HAVI and tms to our Evelina House on Thursday. The team made some wonderful snacks and helped our Housekeeping team keep the House clean and tidy. We wouldn’t exist without our amazing partners and supporters so thank you so much to every volunteer who visited, and we look forward to seeing the next group in a couple of weeks!” said Ben Walker.
In Singapore, the team supported local non-profit FFM, which is 100% volunteer run, by purchasing mooncakes that benefit FFM Medical Care & Local Humanitarian Projects. The organization works to improve community welfare, education, and health. Similarly, in Hong Kong tms participated in the Orbis Mooncake Charity Sale 2022. All net profits from the sale contribute to the treatment and prevention of blindness in countries around the world.
In Chicago, nearly two dozen Finance Team members spent time sorting through donations for Cradles to Crayons, a group that distributes essential items to local disadvantaged children from birth to age 12 so they can thrive at home, school, and play. Our volunteers helped ensure only donated items that pass a quality check would go to children and families and they left with a better understanding of childhood poverty, which is a nation-wide problem in the United States.
“We were so excited to volunteer with Cradles to Crayons again! We continue to have positive experiences with their staff, and plan to return later this year, said Abby Merkel, Senior NA Director of Finance. “It was also amazing to see that many of the finance team volunteers showed up at The Giving Factory with donations of their most needed items, diapers, wipes, and school supplies, without being asked. I am so proud to work at a place where giving back is a part of our culture.”
